Harley-Davidson reveals four premium models launched in 2021

Via its Serial 1 brand, Harley-Davidson formalizes its entry into the electric bicycle market. Its launch range comes in four top-of-the-range models expected in spring 2021, one of which will be confined to the United States only.

At the end of October, the iconic Harley-Davidson brand caused a sensation by revealing the final design of its next electric bike, awaited with firm footing after more than a year of teasing. A cycle as elegant as it is high-end, which is reaching the end of its development phase: the company has indeed lifted the veil on the technical details, price and marketing of its model for the occasion, available in four versions.

First of all, note that all cycles are entitled to four power levels (Eco, Tour, Sport and Boost) and a belt transmission, less messy and therefore more practical than a conventional chain. System generally found on high-end products, like Harley’s electrified bikes. A dedicated mobile application is also required for each of them, thanks to a Bluetooth connection.

For now, pre-orders seem to be reserved for the United States and Germany.

MOSH / CTY

The MOSH / CTY is the more affordable version of the four. With its 529 Wh battery, this bike has a range of between 56 and 168 km depending on the power mode used, explains the official product sheet. An insane difference that will have to be justified via full-scale tests. Its maximum speed with assistance also respects the 25 km / h authorized, for a torque of 90 Nm.

Its matt black frame is supported by hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear, but is devoid of luggage racks and fenders. For a high-end bike, that’s unfortunate. Note the presence of an automatic transmission Enviolo Automatiq, which automatically adjusts the gear ratio according to pace, cadence and terrain.

LED lights appear on the steering tube, the handlebars and the rear brake. Elegant integrations counterbalanced by a high weight: 21.9 kilos, which is a fairly high average. Its price also has its effect: count 3499 euros to get it. Deliveries scheduled for spring 2021.

RUSH/CTY

The RUSH / CTY has a larger battery (706 Wh)… for an autonomy similar to the first named. It must be said that on the scale, this variation takes 4.8 kilos to climb to 26.7 kilos. An extremely heavy weight for an electric bike, which is therefore one of the big black spots in its technical sheet.

Its black and gray frame this time accommodates one of the front and rear racks, as well as fenders. The situation is however confused as to its maximum speed: the technical sheet indicates 45 km / h, an unauthorized threshold in Europe, while The Verge, which has apparently had access to a press release, attributes this speed to the RUSH / CTY SPEED model.

It would seem more logical that the latter displays a higher pace with regard to its name. We will be sure to update the article if there is a correction. Otherwise, the Enviolo Automatiq system and LED headlights are still present. The cycle also accommodates a glove box integrated into the frame to store small items and a small 1.5 inch screen displaying the mode and speed at the left handle.

For this model, the sum of 4699 euros is required. Deliveries scheduled for spring 2021.

RUSH/CTY STEP-THRU

The RUSH / CTY STEP-THRU benefits from an open frame that is always practical, which makes it easier to get on your bike. Its weight of 27 kilos is still too high, while its 529 Wh battery gives it a range of 48 to 144 kilometers depending on the assistance mode used.

This model then takes the same characteristics as the RUSH / CTY, but sells for a hundred euros cheaper at a price of 4599 euros. Deliveries expected in spring 2021.

RUSH/CTY SPEED

As explained above, this variation seems to be reserved for the United States, according to The Verge, which gives it a maximum speed of 45 km / h, combined with a 706 Wh battery for a range of between 40 and 185 km depending on the speed mode used. Its weight is close to 26.7 kilos. Its price climbs to 5199 euros. Deliveries expected in summer 2021.
