Sony and Microsoft prepare for another round as the war between console makers approaches its third decade.
Microsoft will be firing the first shot with the release of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles on November 10th (we’ve already checked both of them if you want to decide which to get).
Two days later, Sony’s PS5 is slipping into the hands of fans (stop by this weekend for a review too).
The PS5 and Xbox Series X are similarly capable in terms of paper specifications (the Xbox a bit more).
They cost the same: $ 749. (A digital-only PS5 is $ 600 and the less powerful Digital-only Series S is $ 499.)

Both have significantly improved graphics, faster solid-state storage, and redesigned controllers for smoother and more impressive gaming in 4K resolution.
For some, like exclusive games Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 or Gears 5 on Xbox Series X / S could be the deciding factor while others may stick to the same console platform they adopted last time.
In this case, Sony will be the winner after the Xbox One previously lost out on sales.
By September, Sony had sold more than 113.5 million PS4 consoles.
Microsoft is not disclosing a number, but it is estimated that it has sold less than 50 million Xbox One consoles.
You may have lost relevance when it comes to determining who will make an election, but the consumer demand survey for next-gen consoles is probably 100 percent accurate, which is bad news for a console maker.
According to a survey of over 30,000 readers on news.com.au, the Sony PS5 is by far the console we’re most excited about.
A few months ago we wondered which of the new consoles you were looking to buy.
Almost two-thirds of those surveyed have the PS5 in their sights, while less than a quarter want the Xbox Series X or Series S.
Around 10 percent of those surveyed with particularly deep pockets hope to handle both.
If you haven’t already received a pre-order (difficult as it was), you’ll likely wait a while to get one of the new consoles.
Retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and EB Games have sold out their launch consoles through the pre-order process.
EB Games is now offering pre-orders for PS5 consoles arriving next year with a $ 50 deposit to secure your place in line.
Xbox consoles are “expected” before year end, but require a higher $ 200 deposit.
JB Hi-Fi doesn’t list either console on its website.
Harvey Norman doesn’t have any of the new Xbox consoles on his website.
An ad for the digital-only PS5 claims it’s “coming back soon,” but you can’t reserve one.
