AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT benchmarks revealed – and RTX 3080...
When AMD took down the covers on the Radeon RX 6000 series, which includes Big Navi, the Radeon RX 6800 XT, and the RX 6000, we found that they bring some serious graphical firepower to downing Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3000 series .

But Team Red has since posted a number of benchmarks on its website that really show that it poses a huge threat to Nvidia when it comes to 4K gaming. And that’s thanks to the performance of the Radeon RX 6800 XT compared to the GeForce RTX 3080.

When testing the new graphics cards in a system with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor, 16 GB of RAM and a high-end motherboard, the Radeon 6800 XT with 16 GB of GDDR6 video memory often outperformed the GeForce RTX 3080 with 10 GB of faster GDDR6X VRAM. In games like Battlefield V, Borderlands 3, and Gears 5, the RX 6800 XT, valued at $ 649, beats the RTX 3080, valued at $ 699.

The Radeon card loses out to Team Green’s high-end gaming GPU in titles like Doom Eternal and the Resident Evil 3 remake, but the difference is small. That said, the Radeon RX 6800 XT offers a lot for the wallet.

The $ 999 Radeon RX 6900 XT wipes the floor with all other graphics cards except in a few games where the more expensive RTX 3090 has the edge. And in The Division 2, the most powerful consumer graphics card from AMD is beaten by the RTX 3080.

The less powerful Radeon RX 6800 for $ 549 also does a good job. While it can’t outperform the more powerful GeForce RTX 3000 series cards, it still outperforms the $ 999 GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, the former leader in Nvidia’s graphics card suite.

It’s worth noting that AMD’s benchmarks enabled the Smart Access Memory feature, which enables better communication between the GPU memory and the processor. This is something that is unique to the latest Ryzen processors. So if the tests were run on an Intel CPU, they could tell a different story.

And no ray tracing performance was shown either. Nvidia’s graphics cards have dedicated ray tracing hardware, so the chances are they are still the superior GPUs when it comes to ray tracing.

However, these benchmarks paint a strong picture of how AMD’s new Radeon GPUs are impressive value for money and add more competition to the graphics card arena. This should push Nvidia to offer more competitive graphics cards and, in turn, force AMD to retort, which means better graphics at lower prices for PC gamers.
