Apple releases iOS 14.2 GM with a fix for the “New...

Apple today released iOS 14.2 GM for developer beta testers and public beta testers. In particular, today’s new iOS 14.2 GM should be a solution for the faulty “A new iOS update is now available. Please upgrade from the iOS 14 betaNotification that many users are currently seeing.

iOS 14.2 GM is now being introduced and can be found in the Settings application. The release of this beta is particularly noteworthy given the non-existent update notification that many users have seen over the past 24 hours.

This is not the first time that such an error has occurred. Something similar happened during the beta phase of iOS 12 in 2018. Essentially, Apple hard coded the expiration of beta versions of iOS into the springboard. Once that date has passed, the Springboard will automatically display the pop-up warning repeatedly until an update is installed.

Elsewhere, iOS 14.2 brings redesigned playback controls to the lock screen, along with redesigned AirPlay 2 controls in the Control Center. Another new change in iOS 14.2 is a brand new Shazam switch that can be added to the Control Center.

To add the new Shazam music detection switch to the Control Center, first make sure that you are running the iOS 14.2 Developer Beta which is rolling out today. Then open the Settings app, select Control Center, and look for Shazam under the More Controls heading. You can then add the Shazam switch and rearrange it however you want.

• New AirPlay controls to stream entertainment throughout your home
• Intercom support with HomePod and HomePod mini via iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and CarPlay
• Connect HomePod to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio
• Option to provide statistics on exposure reports without identifying you to participating health authorities

This version also fixes the following issues:

• Apps can be out of order on the dock on the home screen
• The camera viewfinder may appear black at startup
• The keyboard on the lock screen may miss touches when trying to enter the passcode
• By default, reminders can be reset to times in the past
• The photo widget may not display any content
• The weather widget can show the high temperature in Celsius when it is set to Fahrenheit
• The description of the precipitation map for the next hour in Weather can incorrectly indicate when precipitation will stop
• Voice memos are interrupted by incoming calls
• The screen may be black during Netflix video playback
• Apple Cash may not be able to send or receive money when asked through Siri
• The Apple Watch app might close unexpectedly when opened
• Some users are prevented from syncing exercise GPS routes or health data between Apple Watch and iPhone
• Audio is incorrectly marked as “Not played”. in the CarPlay dashboard
• Devices can be prevented from being charged wirelessly
• Exposure notifications are disabled when restoring iPhone from iCloud backup or transferring data to a new iPhone using iPhone Migration
