Ubisoft reveals the full upgrade plan for PS5, Xbox Series X...

Ubisoft has announced a number of details about which of its games will receive cross-progression, next generation upgrades, and backward compatibility for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

As with most of these types of announcements, it’s easy to get lost in the weed about which game gets which feature (especially since messaging has been a confusing mess in terms of cross-generic compatibility), but we’ll lay it all out for you below .

Most importantly, Ubisoft makes some Assassin’s Creed games on PS5 not backwards compatible. These include Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Russia, as well as other properties like Risk, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Werewolves Inside, Space Junkies.

These games are backwards compatible on Xbox Series X / S.

As for Next generation upgrades From PS4 / Xbox One to PS5 / Xbox Series X / S, some Ubisoft games get these at no additional cost to players. However, there are some limitations to players moving from hard disk drives to pure digital consoles.

You can only update your game if you stick to a physical or digital version. This means you cannot upgrade from a physical version of Watch Dogs to a digital version on a next-gen console, or vice versa. You can also only upgrade within the same family of consoles, i.e. Xbox One on Series X or PlayStation 4 on PlayStation 5.

Games that get free next-gen upgrades include: Guard Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Riders Republic, and Rainbow Six Siege (a next-gen version of Siege will be announced at a later date), as well as Japanese Siege player must pay 100 yen). All of these games also have cross-progression.

Games received Cross progression The console generations and console families (meaning you can switch from Xbox to PlayStation or vice versa) include: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Riders Republic, and Hyperscape.

The games that will evolve across generations of consoles, but where you must belong to the same console family, include: Watch Dogs Legion and Rainbow Six Siege.

Ubisoft says “most” of its games will be preserved Backwards compatibility (with the exception of those we mention in the second paragraph of this article) and some backward-compatible games will also continue to evolve across generations within the same console family, including For Honor (with free graphical upgrades), The Division 2, The Crew 2, and Just Dance 2021 and the upcoming remake Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Generationsübergreifendes Crossplay will be available for Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor, so users can play with friends as long as they belong to the same console family.

Ubisoft closed his post by stating that there are more “cross-platform benefits” to come and that cross-progression is part of their commitment to players.

“Ubisoft Connect is designed for a new era of gaming where you can play anywhere, make progress, and keep in touch with friends. It forms the basis for the games and services from Ubisoft to live cross-platform and to offer cross-platform functions. “Standard for the future,“ says Ubisoft’s contribution.
