As part of its efforts to make it easier for companies to reach their customers across the app family, Facebook is making several updates to the Messenger API. One of them is the support of Instagram messages. Support gives companies new tools to manage their customer communications on Instagram by integrating Instagram messaging into their business applications and workflows.
Additionally, Facebook hopes the updated API will help companies have more meaningful conversations and increase customer satisfaction with the aim of increasing sales.
Messaging is an important part of helping people connect with brands in person. The daily conversations between people and companies over the past year via Messenger and Instagram have increased by 40% in the past year.
The API update is also designed to help companies respond to messages on their various channels on a single platform. Companies can use it to manage their messages on Instagram – profiles, deals, and stories. In addition, in addition to Instagram messages, companies can also use information from CRMs and other core business systems.
Finally, Facebook says the update will also bring the messaging capabilities of Facebook shops to the Messenger API.
The updated API is currently in beta with a limited number of developer partners and companies including Adidas, Amaro, Glossier, H&M, Magazine Luiza, Michael Kors, Nars, Sephora, TechStyle Fashion Group and a few other consumer brands.
However, interested parties can work with developers first to integrate Instagram messaging into their current tools and systems. To use the API when it opens (after beta), companies can sign up for the waiting list. Developers can also register for the developer partner’s waiting list.
