Assassin’s Creed in Japan or China? The rumor returns

Will the next Assassin’s Creed take place in Japan or China? Some clues let think so, but nothing is certain. We take stock.

The Assassin’s Creed saga has always liked to do tourism: Italy, Egypt, the United States, France, Greece … On the other hand, the main episodes have never dared to venture into Asia. For the moment anyway because a rumor sends the series to China or Japan.

We owe this little find to a NSTAV13, surfer on Reddit. This one tracked down concept arts by John Birgogne, an artist at Ubisoft Montreal who previously worked on Assassin’s Creed.

There are certainly only two images, but we can see that it recalls Asia several centuries ago. According to NSTAV13 who has apparently worked on the subject well, there is no doubt: it is medieval China rather than Japan. He relies for this on the architecture of the castle and the armament of the soldiers.

Can we believe the Assassin’s Creed rumor in China or Japan?

Apparently, these artworks were put online in 2018. This suggests that we should not see this new Assassin’s Creed arrive before 2022 or even 2023. However, it should be noted that this is just a rumor. that we see constantly arriving. Nothing has been confirmed and a lot of games are canceled, without even having been made official.

These concept arts seem real, but are they linked to a real project? It’s highly likely that Ubisoft thought about exporting Assassin’s Creed to Japan or China, but there is no indication that this work was subsequently given a green light. However, we have to think carefully about the future.

Currently, Assassin’s Creed is in Northern Europe after sailing the Mediterranean Sea. We do not know if next year we will have an episode close to Valhalla, in the same way that Origins and Odyssey have shared a lot in common. On the other hand, we know that Asia has always made people dream. And even from a business point of view, releasing a game in China can be very interesting for Ubisoft.

This possible Assassin’s Creed in Japan or China will however have to accept competition from a certain Ghost Of Tsushima. Granted, these are two different games, but Sony’s title has been compared a lot to the Ubisoft saga. They each have their own qualities. Assassin’s Creed has absolutely gigantic content and has negotiated its Action-RPG turn well. Ghost Of Tsushima, on the other hand, boasts a magnificent artistic direction, a surprising story and a magnificent combat system. It is also said that a sequel to Ghost Of Tsushima is currently in development, now that Legends is available for free. As for Assassin’s Creed, remember that Valhalla will be released next month on all Sony and Microsoft consoles, in addition to the PC and Stadia.
