Photoshop’s new AI can change a face’s age and expression

Adobe today unveiled the new update 22.0 of its Photoshop CC image editing software. This new version brings with it the traditional bug fixes, but also several tools based on theartificial intelligence. We thus find a tool capable of modifying the sky of a photo to transform it into a perfect sunset, but also a suite of features called “Neural Filters”, and which allow in particular to change facial expressions or age of a portrait photo in just a few clicks.

In a video shared by Adobe (below), we discover that the “neural filters” allow you to adjust the facial expression of a face, thanks to sliders capable of amplifying or on the contrary attenuating certain features. , like anger, joy or even surprise. “We can now say that Photoshop is the most advanced artificial intelligence software in the world. We take pictures and we create things that did not exist before ”, explains Maria Yap, vice president of digital imagery at Adobe to our colleagues at The Verge. Thanks to machine learning, the image transformation process takes place almost instantly, reveals the American media after being able to test a demo version of the update. In addition to changing the age or expression of a face, Photoshop will also soon be offering to use AI to colorize a black and white photo automatically, based on several thousand more or less similar snapshots in its database. The software will also allow the light source of a photo to be modified directly in post-production. In the future, Adobe also plans to integrate into its “neural filters” tool, the possibility of transforming a photo into a drawing (and vice versa) or into a caricature, and to reduce the grain present on an old photo or bad quality.
