San Francisco, 18. Oktober (IANS): Microsoft has released two updates to address vulnerabilities in Windows and Visual Studio, which were essentially RCE (Remote Code Execution) errors that hackers could use to execute code on affected systems.

The new security patches arrived after tech giant released October 2020 Patch Tuesday, which fixes 87 vulnerabilities.

Microsoft researchers report that the systems running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update were protected from the two exploits, reports ZDNet.

The first bug, tracked as CVE-2020-17022, could help hackers create malicious images that would allow the attacker to run code on an unpatched Windows operating system when processed by an app running on Windows is running.

The second bug, named CVE-2020-17023, could help attackers create malicious “packageon” files that could execute malicious code when loaded into Visual Studio Code.

Last week Microsoft also fixed 87 vulnerabilities in a wide variety of Microsoft products.

The most dangerous bug that has been fixed is CVE-2020-16898. This bug is described as an RCE vulnerability in the Windows TCP / IP stack and could allow an attacker to take over Windows systems by sending malicious packets over a network connection to an unpatched computer.

Microsoft fixed nearly 130 vulnerabilities in its Windows operating system and supported software in the last month.
