According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, previous tests showed that the paints have anti-bacterial and anti-mold properties.

Experts at UCLA Virus Research Services tested Airlite paint formulations against the Coronavirus strain NL63.

Virologist Kiara Minkarelli and her colleagues reported that the paints neutralize more than 99% of the viral particles that landed on their surfaces.

And although it has not yet been tested, the coating could prove just as effective against the coronavirus strain responsible for the current pandemic, as scientists expected.

The paints are currently only used by a small group of property management and construction companies, however, a new version is expected to appear in the first quarter of 2021.

The coating boosts the formation of ions, which are charged particles, by sunlight, helping to form an ionizing shield on the surface in question.

When a viral particle comes into contact with this, hydrogen hydroxide ions emerge from the previous lipoprotein shell to become water, which disintegrates the virus.

“Previously, paint was just a decorative, but now, it can play an active role in your health,” said Chris Layton, managing director of Airlite in the UK.

“Especially in urban areas where pollution is at its highest levels, Airlight provides escape from polluted air,” Layton said, noting that this helps prevent respiratory problems and gives homes and workplaces safety and cleanliness that were previously unavailable from paints.
