Egypt and Sudan in a confrontation over a “hot tin” .....

African football fans in general, and the teams of Egypt and Sudan in particular, are eagerly awaiting the expected match between them on Wednesday evening, in the last round of Group D of the African Nations Cup.

The Egyptian “Pharaohs” team and the Sudanese “Suqur Al-Jedian” will enter the “Arab Derby” meeting at exactly nine o’clock in the evening, both countries, in the championship of the brown continent currently being held in Cameroon, and appointed them on the second qualification card that qualifies directly to the final price of the tournament.

Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau will play at the same time in the last round of Group D as well.

History tilts the scales of the Egyptian national team. They faced each other for the first time in the history of the African Nations Cup, on February 10, 1957, in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and ended with the victory of the Pharaohs with two goals to one.

Egypt also defeated Sudan in the 1959 edition by the same score (2-1) and won the continental title, while the draw prevailed in the 1963 edition with two goals each.

The Sudanese team achieved its only victory over Egypt in the continental championship in the semi-finals of the 1970 edition with a score of 1-2, and the last occasion between them was in the 2008 African Nations Cup, and the “Pharaohs” won by three clean points.

Egypt, the defending champion with a record 7 titles, is looking for the eighth continental title that has been absent from its coffers since 2010.

While the Sudanese team will win over Egypt and cling to the hopes of qualifying for this group, especially since the runner-up seat is still confused between Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan, in addition to the possibility of entering among the best third-placed teams.

Hawks Al-Jedyan is motivated to repeat the scenario of the 2012 edition, which saw the group stage skipped after a decisive victory in the last round at the expense of Burkina Faso, the last version that witnessed Sudan qualify for the playoffs stage since 1970, when the Falcons Al-Jedyan won the only continental title.

The Egyptian team started its campaign with a loss to Nigeria (0-1), and defeated Guinea Bissau by the same score.

While Sudan started its journey with a goalless draw against Guinea Bissau and a loss against Nigeria (1-3), respectively.
