Mahmoud Al-Khatib talks to Al-Ain Sports about the crisis of the...

Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the Egyptian Al-Ahly Club, spoke about the conflict between the dates of the African Nations Cup and the Club World Cup.

9 Al-Ahly players will participate in the African Nations Cup, 6 with the Egyptian national team, and one player with the teams of Tunisia, Mali and Morocco.

The continental championship will continue until February 6 in Cameroon, while the Club World Cup will start on the 3rd of the same month.

Mahmoud Al-Khatib attended the ceremony of the Creative Sports Award, one of Al Maktoum’s global initiatives, in its 11th session.

Al-Ahly Club was among the winners of the award, specifically at the level of the club’s economic group, where it won the Arab Foundation award.

Al Ain Sports met with Al-Khatib on the sidelines of the ceremony, to find out his opinion on this conflict.

Al-Khatib said, “The interest of the Egyptian national team is above any consideration, and we wish him success in the African Nations Cup in Cameroon.”

And he added, “Al-Ahly is suffering because the international players are away from the team for a whole month before the start of the Club World Cup.”

And he concluded by saying, “Al-Ahly’s international players are required to leave the atmosphere of one championship and focus on another within only 24 hours.”
