Egypt and Olympiacos forward Ahmed Hassan Kouka has claimed the criticism he receives with the Egyptian national team unfair as international football is totally different to club one.

Kouka missed a large portion of the season after contracting COVID-19, which sidelined him for nearly two months.

The 27-year-old has eight goals and three assists in 11 league games this season, sitting fourth on the top-scoring charts. He also scored once in the Champions League this season.

Kouka is often criticised for his record with Egypt, having scored few goals for the Pharaohs compared to his output with the foreign clubs he played for.

“Nobody has taken my place in the national team. We play 5-6 games with Egypt all year, which is different to club football where we play for a whole year,” Kouka told ON Time Sport.

“My goal at the moment is continuing to play in Europe and playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues.”

He also spoke on Mostafa Mohamed who hit the ground running with Galatasaray since joining the team in January, scoring three goals in three outings so far.

“Mostafa Mohamed is a great person besides being a great player. I am happy for what he is achieving in Turkey.

“My advice to him is to not look for returning to Egypt at all. He has to target playing in one of the big clubs in Europe, and he is capable of doing that.”

Kouka joined Olympiacos permanently in summer 2020 having spent two previous loan spells in 2018/19 and 2019/20 with the Greek giants joining from Portugal’s SC Braga.

The former Al Ahly youngster hasn’t scored for Egypt since November 2015 against Chad and overall has five goals in 26 outings with the Pharaohs.
