2 Cy Young Award-winning right-hander Corey Kluber is very close to signing with the New York Yankees, according to sources.
Direct sources from the team told @ConLasBasesFull that the Yankees have prepared to make an offer to the former pitcher of the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers in the next few hours.
Kluber has seen little action since 2019 when he had a nondisplaced fracture when hit by a batted ball to the ulna in his right forearm that took him out for the remainder of the season that year.
After recovering, on the Rangers’ debut last season, the right-hander fell back on the disabled list after a grade 2 strain to his right shoulder and was unable to return to the mound.
By the start of the 2021 season, Corey Kluber arguably will go almost two years without seeing action in a major league game, yet the Yankees hope he can be healthy and bring his experience to the rotation.
The 34-year-old right-hander, winner of 2 Cy Young Awards and an ERA title, is looking to once again be one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball.
Where are the Yankees headed?
The Yankees, for their part, need to strengthen their rotation in the absence of Luis Severino who returns for 2021 and the ineffectiveness of pitchers like Happ, Paxton and Tanaka with whom they have not yet reached an agreement in their free agency.
From @ConLasBasesFull sources it is expected that Corey Kluber is very close to signing with the Yankees and the deal could be sooner rather than later.
