Mourinho’s attack on Chelsea doesn’t surprise Lampard

Mourinho claimed Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool tried to get officials to award a penalty kick for his defense of skipper Harry Kane.

The Portuguese were unhappy with the suggestion that Kane had deliberately resorted to Adam Lallana to win a penalty in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

Earlier this week, Mourinho said, “Kane? I think you are confused.

“You could talk about some Manchester United players, some Man City players, some Liverpool players, some Chelsea players.”

Chelsea have already had eight penalties this season but Lampard insists none of them have been awarded to a player diving into the box.

“I wasn’t surprised by these comments,” he said. “This season there have been no cases of diving at Chelsea that I have seen.

“But I wasn’t surprised, no. I think it’s quite normal for managers in and around the challenging clubs to sometimes mention others with these statements. It didn’t affect me. ”

He added, “I’m not going to tell Jose or any other manager how to hold a press conference.

“I think we all know when we look at these penal decisions, we know what penalties are, which dives, which skilfully bought. I don’t want to go into that. ”

Timo Werner converted two penalties for Chelsea in the 4-0 win against Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday and extended his unbeaten run to six games.

The Blues have played for the first time since October 2010 in five consecutive games without conceding a goal, with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma starting together in all but one.

Lampard has regularly praised the impact of veteran defender Silva, who he believes helps make the most of Zouma by his side.

No player made more clearances in defeating Rennes than Zouma (4) and he also topped the charts for successful passes (84) and touches (99).

“I was really impressed with Kurt, his shape and what he gave us. He scored goals and defended against standards, which is a big part of our game, ”he said.

“I think Thiago can influence the people around him. I think about his status in the game and the way he plays it.

“We talk about partnerships in a team. We can all imagine great center-back partnerships. With Thiagos quality that rubs not only on Kurt, but on every player he works with.

“I think he helped Kurt and we now have to maintain that level of performance and the good run of goals we are conceding. It definitely affects the others. ”

Silva was transferred for a free transfer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired late last season – one of seven first-team players signed during a busy final season.

Lampard is grateful for the strong support he received from owner Roman Abramovich and hopes that Silva’s signing in particular can result in silverware being won.

“People think we did all of our business in five minutes. The first year I was here I couldn’t bring in any players, so in the long run I knew which players I could bring in, ”he said.

“It was all very closely linked and I was definitely satisfied with the input I had. We have worked hard and a lot of people deserve credit. The next step is to work with it.

“We’ve seen good signs lately that players are settling in and getting fit – Thiago among them.

“In terms of his career, he is absolutely one of the top central defenders. Teams that achieve something have defenders who set these standards.

“The players know how important it is to defend well in order to win trophies and especially Premier League titles.

“But they also need support around them. If you look at Thiago and his early effects, he can be a big deal for us. ”
