Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Facundo Pellistri will need some time on his reserves this summer before he is ready to make his Manchester United debut.

The 18-year-old came from Penarol last month and has played for the U23 squad but has not yet played for the senior team.

The winger has had a few seasons in the Uruguayan top division with Penarol but needs time to adapt to English football, especially the physical side given his short stature.

Solskjaer insists his development is progressing well but it will be some time before he is used on the first team.

“He’s a little boy who comes over and everything is new to him,” Solskjaer told the Manchester United official website. “Of course he will need a few games in the reserves to gain a foothold in a new country.

“So far it has been very positive and he’s someone we’ll be patient with and we’ll give him time to settle in and get used to us.

“You will see him in the reserves, probably in the next game.”

Manchester United U23 coach Neil Wood admitted it’s a steep learning curve for the teen arriving from South America after making his debut against Everton last month.

“It was” Welcome to England! “Quipped Wood in his post-game interview after the 2-1 win. ‘But it was great for him to have 90 minutes on the pitch and get a first taste of English football. I am sure he can build on this experience. ‚

Brandon Williams played in the same game, adding, “Facundo has done very well since arriving. He doesn’t speak English that much, but he is learning. He will start and I will be here to help if I can. I enjoyed playing with him. ‚
