Naoya Inoue vs Jason Moloney: fight prediction, map, odds, start time...

The three-part world champion and menacing Japanese thug Naoya Inoue brings his talents to America.

No, Saturday’s bantamweight title fight as Inoue (19-0, 16 KOs) puts his WBA and IBF titles on the line against Australian Jason Moloney (21-1, 18 KOs) in Las Vegas, Inoues US Doesn’t officially debut as a pro (he fought once in Los Angeles in 2017 on a Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez card). However, it is the first time that “The Monster” has penetrated American soil with the support of a major promoter and network.

Inoue, 27, now promoted by Top Rank, will top the card (19:30 ET, ESPN +), which gives Hall of Famer Bob Arum the opportunity to educate American fans about how dangerous and exciting this smaller alien fighter can be, similar to what he previously did with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Inoue has undoubtedly proven he was worth the attention as the pound for pound rose from the dark to grab the attention of hardcore fans by battling for and winning a world title in just his sixth pro fight before he added a second world title in as many divisions in only his eighth fight.

For most of 2019, Inoue then moved up to a third weight class at 118 pounds and romped through the World Boxing Super Series tournament. Not only did the final round of the tournament spawn one of the best fights in boxing of the century, as Inoue highlighted Nonito Donaire to unify the titles, but it also gave Inoue a chance to show off his prowess from the standpoint of toughness and intelligence when he overcame a broken orbital bone on lap 2 to the rally.

Despite the danger Inoue poses for the seemingly respective weight distribution, 29-year-old Moloney seemed to be doing everything possible to seek the fight.

“Every fighter should want to fight the best. That’s why we’re in this sport, “said Moloney during his media conference. “My dream and goal is to be the best bantamweight in the world and the only way I can do it is to beat Inoue. I worked for this opportunity for a long time and wanted this opportunity. It’s finally here. I am absolutely confident and know that I have what it takes to beat him. Saturday night is the opportunity to prove it. I can not wait any longer. I am ready to go ”

Moloney has won four straight wins since losing his professional career, a decision against Emmanuel Rodriguez in 2018. A year later, Rodriguez was viciously knocked out by Inoue. This is one of the main reasons Inoue has been installed as a clear favorite by odds makers.

“I love being the underdog, and I love proving people wrong and going out there and, like I said, shocking the world,” Moloney said. “I know a lot of people don’t give me a chance in this fight, and that just gives me extra motivation and extra fire in my stomach to go out there and show people what can be done.

“People put some of these fighters like Inoue and Lomachenko on this pedestal and think they are unbeatable, but they are not. We are all human. We all have two arms and two legs, and everyone has weaknesses. Anyone can be beaten. ”

Combat card, odds of winning

  • Naoya Inoue (c) -900 vs Jason Moloney +600, IBF / WBA bantamweight title
  • Ewa Brodnicka (c) versus Mikaela Mayer, WBO junior lightweight title
  • Julian Rodriguez versus Jose Eduardo Lopez Rodriguez, Junior World Weights

forecast

Moloney is a capable boxer and he undoubtedly deserves credit for looking for such a dangerous challenge in Inoue. It’s also worth noting that Inoue will be forced to heal from ongoing damage in the ring for the first time after an eleven month layoff.

This is the only concession to Moloney that can really be given when evaluating this matchup. Overall, Inoue is too precise, too efficient and too skillful to have long problems.

Look for Inoue to land early and test Moloney’s chin. Should the Australian continue to stand up and take an offensive stance, don’t expect the judges to be needed.

Selection: Inoue on KO4
