Race Minister Martin Pakula announced that despite the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions in Melbourne, connections and owners will not be allowed to attend this year’s event.
“The government has determined that next week is not an appropriate time for this type of gathering,” Pakula said.
“It is the right decision and was made in the interests of all Victorians.”

International raiders are currently listed as the front runner as betting favorites less than a week before the big race with Irish import Tiger Moth.
Aidan O’Brien’s horse is the cheapest, although it has never run on Australian shores. He is followed by Sir Dragonet, who made more and more bets after winning the Cox record.

MELBOURNE CUP ENTERTAINMENT
The Melbourne Cup Day lineup consists of Delta Goodrem, The Rubens, Jon Stevens and his band Bonnie Anderson and Pete Murray.
Goodrem will perform with Stevens and his Sydney band to play INXS classic Never Tear Us Apart from the Flemington Stalls.
Masked Singer winner Bonnie Anderson will perform the national anthem.
