David Coulthard has questioned why Lewis Hamilton wasn’t knighted like other sports stars after his record win in Portugal on Sunday.
Hamilton took his 92nd victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix by a margin of 25 seconds, beating Michael Schumacher’s record for most Formula 1 racing victories.
Despite all of his successes over the years, he has yet to earn a knighthood like other British stars, including Andy Murray, who was knighted in 2016 for his services to tennis and charity.

Despite all his triumphs, Hamilton has often divided opinions and was not universally loved like tennis hero Murray. Critics accused him of averting his eyes from the racetrack after immersing himself in the world of celebrities.
However, the driver has used his social media platforms to raise awareness of major causes and has commented on various topics including Black Lives Matter and the Environment.
He urged his fellow riders to join one knee before every race this season. Some of his colleagues were less than interested in advocating the cause.

Hamilton then accused the reluctant handful of being involved in racism unless they spoke out and proved otherwise.
He also paid tribute to Breonna Taylor at the Tuscan Grand Prix by wearing a t-shirt calling for the arrest of the officers who killed them.
The 35-year-old faced an investigation into the “political” shirt, but the FIA later confirmed that no action would be taken.
