JUSTIN GAETHJE called Conor McGregor to an easy title showdown after his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The Notorious took to Twitter to describe the American’s performance as “embarrassing” after its second-round submission to the Russian.
McGregor also reminded him of his loss to Dustin Poirier in 2018, writing: “Dustin KO has you, as does your wrestling / grappling and the general fear that the central positions tonight are really embarrassing, Justin.”
McGregor was embroiled in talks about a return to the Octagon against Poirier on Jan. 23, although no official contracts were signed.
His tweet has since been deleted, but Gaethje wasted no time replying to the outspoken Irish with the light belt, which is free after Khabib’s resignation.
Gaethje said: “When he retires, I’ll be number 1.
“Poirier and McGregor will fight. They didn’t make it official. So if McGregor wants to ricochet and get the belt, this is my place.
“If you want to give it to someone else, so be it.
“But I’ll be ready. I am ready to fight again. This is my job. This is my life I love it so much. ”
McGregor, who has retired three times, last fought Donald Cerrone in January.
The Crumlin superstar beat Poirier in 2014 and eventually won the lightweight title two years later when he defeated Eddie Alvarez.

He confirmed his interest in a rematch with Poirier and said: “I accept, January 23rd is open.
“My goal is to see the fight in the cowboy stadium. Right style!
“Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our audience. I’ll be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans. ”
