Green: “Construction of a communal stadium at Olympia”

Club Brugge may already have concrete building plans for a new stadium on the Olympia site, but no definitive solution has yet been found for neighbor Cercle. “The Kanaaleiland is not big enough and the Blankenbergse Steenweg is also uncertain. It is not only legally feasible, but also politically undesirable to build a stadium there. The Blankenbergse Steenweg comprises fertile polder soils that must be used for sustainable and local agriculture. We must safeguard the open space in Bruges as much as possible, there too, ”says Groen fraction leader Raf Reuse.

“Rental with the City of Bruges as an intermediary”

Groen therefore proposes that both Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge remain on the Olympia site. “We want both our football teams to have a sustainable future in Sint-Andries. Club could effectively realize its stadium plans, but in our proposal Club rents out the new football temple to neighbor Cercle with the City as intermediary. For example, there will be a common stadium for both Bruges football teams ”, says Reuse.

“No detraction from other slopes”

Groen explicitly puts forward this formula, but certainly does not want to detract from other possible options. The party also emphasizes that the project on the Olympia site can only succeed if the concerns of the local residents are taken into account. “A strong mobility plan is crucial in this. We propose the Kinepolis site as a location for an edge car park. There, supporters could park to be taken to the stadium by shuttle buses ”, Groen councilor Andries Neirynck concludes.
