Portimao: Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel admitted on Saturday that he felt overtaken by his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix.

The German rider, who said on Thursday that he hopes to end his “love affair” with the Italian team “with dignity” at the end of this season, finished 15th on the grid while Leclerc was fourth.

“It’s not just beating, it’s like a different class,” he said Heaven Germany. “I’m trying everything I can. I think the laps that I’ve made – and that I’m happy with – are still too slow.

“At the moment there is nothing more I can do than get what I have in me.”

He said he was having trouble getting his set of medium tires up to temperature, but he couldn’t explain why.

“I don’t know why I have such a hard time getting the tires up to temperature and it feels a little different every time,” he continued. “As I said, the car felt good on the first try.

“I thought that with the medium I could easily repeat the first quarter. That was the goal, but it wasn’t that easy. ”
