Daniel Ricciardo was frustrated while qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix as he was unable to compete in the third quarter after being thrown into the gravel in the second quarter.
Ricciardo lost the car at Turn 11 on his final run in the second quarter, sliding backwards through the gravel and into the barrier, causing damage to his rear win.
And although he managed to return to the pits, his Renault team excruciatingly missed repairing his car in time to take a lap in the third quarter.
This means that the Australian could only start in P10 on Sunday evening (AEDT), shortly before his teammate Esteban Ocon in P11.

“I turned,” said Ricciardo. “I dont know. The cars are quite sensitive, I had to go through a couple of lapped cars, they are away from the racing line, but turning and braking depends on where the wind is coming from.
“I felt like I lost the stern when I got in, but I’ll take another look and see if it’s something I caused, but it’s done. It’s obviously a shame because if I lost it I was fine, I’ll spin and go again but it kept going until I hit the barrier and damaged the rear wing.
“The team was very close to getting me back on track for the third quarter. Another minute and we were on the right track. It’s a shame I could see them working hard in the mirrors trying to make it work for me so it was a bit of a disappointment for them but we will make it tomorrow and yeah, up. ”
