North Melbourne and senior trainer Rhyce Shaw have split with immediate effect.

Shaw left the club after the 2020 season ended to deal with personal issues.

After Brad Scott’s departure in 2019, he took over the reins and was named senior coach later that year.

North Melbourne Football Club and senior coach Rhyce Shaw have made a mutual decision to part ways with immediate effect.

We fully support him and have been in constant contact since the end of the season. At all times our focus has been on the health, wellbeing of Rhyce and the appropriate care for him and his family.

Since Rhyce took on the role of caretaker coach in mid-2019 and then senior coach for 2020, he has given the club everything.

He was an exceptional leader and a man of the highest integrity. His work ethic is unparalleled and we are really grateful for the time, effort and energy he put into the role.

We’ll continue to work with Rhyce to make sure he has the support he needs.

I would like to thank you, our members, for your patience and understanding in dealing with this sensitive issue.

I would also like to thank the media again for the care and sensitivity they have shown. I hope this becomes a new benchmark for how we deal with similar issues in the future, should they arise. We continue to ask that Rhyce’s and his family’s privacy be respected.

For the next steps we had to plan several contingent liabilities in the last few weeks. One of them was preparing to find a new trainer and the search begins immediately.

We will set up a coaching panel and its goal will be simple: to identify and appoint the best coach available.

The winning candidate will have the opportunity to further prepare for the next era of success on Arden Street and work with one of the most talented groups of young players in the league.

We will go to the draft with two selection rounds (currently 2 and 9) and try to attract more young talent through the trade and free trade periods.

“I have great faith in those who run the football division at Brady Rawlings, Scott Clayton, Mark Finnigan and Glenn Luff to create something special and to believe that there is a big core of youth to build around and people as Jy Simpkin and Tarryn can add Thomas, Nick Larkey, Curtis Taylor, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Bailey Scott, Cameron Zurhaar, Aiden Bonar, Ben McKay, Kyron Hayden, Flynn Perez, Jack Mahony, Tristan Xerri and Charlie Comben. ”

“Mix in some veteran players like Todd Goldstein, Jack Ziebell, Robbie Tarrant, Ben Cunnington, Josh Walker, Jared Polec, Aaron Hall, Kayne Turner, Taylor Garner, Luke McDonald, Jed Anderson, and Trent Dumont, and we have a great list.” full of flexibility and a lot of excitement. ”
