NFL News: Washington Football Team Name, Nickname, Redskins

It looks like the Washington Football Team has decided on a name for next season: The Washington Football Team.
Although it was originally believed that the Washington Football Team would be a stopgap for a season after the franchise dropped its controversial Redskins name, it now appears that the organization will use the new nickname for at least another year.
“There’s a good chance we’ll be the Washington Football Team next season,” team president Jason Wright told Washington TV station WJLA on Wednesday.
On July 13, the team withdrew the Redskins name and logo, which it had used for 87 years after a review of the name, which many viewed as racist. The name of the Washington Football Team was announced on July 23rd.

“I think the next year is fast because the brand has to come together through uniforms, through league approval processes,” Wright said on Wednesday.
“We could get there faster, it’s actually quite difficult to get there that fast because all the steps are required.”
Daniel Snyder, who has owned the team since 1999, was long against changing the team’s name and swore in 2013 that he would “never” change his point of view. He even fought as far as the Supreme Court to protect the team’s original name.
Snyder was forced to change his mind after corporate sponsors FedEx – who got their name on the stadium the team plays in – Nike and PepsiCo put pressure on the team to lose their grip.
