Make your decision based on Thiagos Melwood exploits

Paul Gorst:So how is Liverpool going to redress the wrongs of that harrowing night at Villa Park?

Well, the good news is abundant.

Thiago Alcantara, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are all back in action and could perform.

No Alisson Becker remains a problem, which means Adrian goes in behind four opponents from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Matip, whom I bring in for Gomez at the center of defense.

I was torn in midfield. All week I thought that this game might come too early for Thiago, but now – after seeing the Spaniard ping around Melwood – he’s in. Jordan Henderson and James Milner who have the full benefit of a week-long training start.

Once at the top it is the traditional look of the first three, even if Roberto Firmino may not be able to offer anything until an hour after his trip to Peru with Brazil.

My team (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Milner, Henderson, Thiago; Wrong, mane, Firmino.

The midfield can be completely revised

Ian Doyle: For every self-respecting Liverpool (and Everton) fan, there’s a day they’re more excited than most on the Premier League calendar.

It’s the day after the derby because it’s as far away from the next as possible.

Nobody enjoys them.

But, like any game, it’s about winning those three points. And after what happened at Villa Park, Jürgen Klopp would assign 12 changes (the additional one, just to be absolutely sure).

Instead, there is room for some realistic change.

Adrian is on target. If you don’t like that, hard.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson weren’t seen in every game in the international period, so will be fresh enough in the full-back roles, while Virgil van Dijk is more durable than ever.

Who should the Dutchman work with?

Joe Gomez struggled hard at Villa while Fabinho wasn’t much better. So come over to Joel Matip who trained at Melwood this week.

The midfield can be completely revised. Jordan Henderson is back with James Milner and Thiago Alcantara.

And Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane continue the theme of relying on those who have worked at Melwood all week.

However, Mane can go in the middle with Diogo Jota on the left against his youth club.

My team (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Thiago, Milner; Wrong, mane, iota.

Changes are required

Joe Rimmer: Aston Villa still hurts.

What’s the best way to get it right?

Beat Everton at its most confident form.

And to do that I would love to see Liverpool return to 4-2-3-1.

However, changes are required.

Adrian has to stay in goal, but I would bring Joel Matip back into the central defender right next to Virgil van Dijk. That said, Joe Gomez makes room.

Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson form a delicious partnership in midfield. Fabinho rested after his travels.

Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are my three at the top behind Mohamed Salah.

Jota will have to play to the right of these three, but I would imagine he and Mane would be free to change.

My team (4-2-3-1): Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson: Henderson Thiago; Iota, firmino, mane; Not correct

Shaking off Villa and throwing Everton off the top make the derby more important

Peter Harris: Immediately bounce back from one of the worst defeats in recent history, dust the cobwebs of an international break before the Champions League and remind Everton who the champions are when they are at the top.

Jürgen Klopp could pull every reason out of the bucket why this Merseyside derby is more important – especially compared to the 0-0 win last time at Goodison Park.

Adrian starts, everyone knows this and why, but there could also realistically be a handful of changes from the terrible performance at Villa.

Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara returned just in time for training in Melwood and should hardly be able to wait. Mohamed Salah stayed on Merseyside during the break and is one of the first on the team sheet.

Jordan Henderson played a small role on duty in England so should be able to regain the center armband and make sure it’s an achievement that Reds fans on Jurgen Klopp’s side are much more used to.

Joel Matip replaces Joe Gomez while Fabinho retains his seat when Wijnaldum is out.

An improvement in formation could help tackle Everton’s improved midfield while Roberto Firmino in 10th place could bring Mane and Salah in central positions more luck against the Blues center-backs than against their formidable full-backs.

My team (4-3-1-2): Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho, Firmino, Salah, Mähne
