LAHORE: In a worrying development on Friday, up to 12 people, including nine players and three officials from the ongoing T20 National Cup in Rawalpindi, violated bio-safe protocols for the coronavirus pandemic and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Forced to do so, warn them all that if another breach occurs, they will be excluded from the said event.

Although the PCB did not disclose the names of the cricketers and officials who violated the protocols, Dawn learned from reliable sources that senior players such as Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Fakhar Zaman, Yasir Shah, Khurram Manzoor, Sohail Khan, Anwar Ali and Imam Ul-Haq plus officials, Abdul Razzaq, Basit Ali and Rashid Khan, violated the protocols at their hotel in Rawalpindi.

In addition, sources said former Pakistani batsman Basit was also unwell and hospitalized by Rashid Khan. Basit had high blood pressure. However, all 12 who violated the protocols tested negative.

Amid the Covi-19 pandemic, the circuit board created a bio-safe bubble for the safety of players and officials.

Any other violation leads to exclusion from the event, warns PCB

Meanwhile, the board quoted high performance board leader Nadeem Khan in the press release as saying, “The board is distraught and disappointed that some high-ranking players and officials broke the bio-safe bubble during the T20 National Cup. In doing so, they have endangered the integrity of the tournament and the health and safety of their peers.

“This is completely unacceptable for the circuit board. After meeting with the players concerned and their team officials, it was agreed that future violations will not be tolerated and those who violate the protocols will be excluded from current and future tournaments.

“I expect the players and officials to show responsibility while the world is watching and international cricket is on our doorstep. Your irresponsible actions can jeopardize all efforts of the board to organize and invite pages during these challenging Covid-19 times, ”added Nadeem.

“Nine players and three officials had spent time outside the US [bio-secure] Bubble area near the team hotel. Then the organizers became aware of it after the last evening [Thursday] Match, Covid-19 tests were urgently carried out, all of which came out negative.

“The 12 people paid for the tests and received warnings for their actions.”
