A major blow could be dealt to the Melbourne Storm for next week’s grand final after fiery striker Brandon Smith suffered a blow in Friday’s Canberra win.
The complaint first surfaced in the first forty years when Smith was being looked after by a trainer.
He was officially stripped for an HIA test and passed to return to the field in the second half.
Coach Craig Bellamy, who suffered a broken jaw earlier this season, is confident it won’t be back, but noted that he had a “bump under his eye”.
Storm press conference
17:02
“He has to knock, he has a small bump under his eyes.
“I’m not exactly sure how bad it is or how much it affected him, but hopefully it’s not a broken jaw again. But I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have gone out again if that were the case.
“He was just a little dazed so hopefully he’ll be right next week.”
Nelson Asofa-Solomona was also scared after clumsily descending in a duel with pain on the floor and clinging to his ankle. The huge frontrower was able to play it through.
