Fantasy Premier League: who should be the captain in Gameweek 5?

Harry Kane, Spurs – £ 10,6

Alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Harry Kane is the must-have striker at the moment. The Tottenham Hotspur striker started the season well with three goals and six assists.

It appears that the English striker is old Harry Kane again and is therefore well worth the big price on his head. Kane had five big chances in his first four games and only four players can improve his expected 3.20 goals.

However, it is his creativity that has made a splash, as Kane made eleven major passes and created six great opportunities, the most of any player in the league. Given that he is at risk for goals, his assistant potential and the fact that he is on penalties, he is a good pick for the captain almost every week.

Listen to the latest episode of our FPL podcast:

Mo Salah, Liverpool – £ 12.2

“When in doubt, Captain Mo Salah,” was Mark Farrelly’s advice in this week’s issue of Der Fantasy Faithful Podcast. It’s good advice considering the Liverpool star can put in a massive performance in a given game.

The Egyptian leads the league in terms of shots (19) and shots in the box (15), although his accuracy could be improved if only seven find the target. He was also outstanding on the creative side, doing 14 key passes and creating three big opportunities.

Even so, Liverpool are still vacillating from Aston Villa and have the in shape Everton on the horizon. The last three Merseyside Derbies at Goodison Park have ended 0-0 and Salah has never hit the ground. But Jordan Pickford looks very roped up right now, so he might spit out another Howler this Saturday.

Four FPL replacements for the injured Kevin De Bruyne

Heung-min son, Spurs – £ 9.1

You won’t find another player whose value fluctuated as much as Heung-min Son’s in the opening month, with the Korean’s price changing weekly. He’s a very popular choice right now, with almost 35% of managers having him on their team.

It’s easy to see why Son has scored six goals in four games, five of which are from the open game and most of all players are in the league. He’s also leading the league by six big chances despite having no penalties.

Son benefited from playing against teams in a high block, Southampton and Manchester United, so he may not be as lucky against a West Ham United team that have been solidly defensively so far. However, it can hurt any team.

Why Leicester, Spurs or Everton could win the Premier League title this year

Choice on the left: Danny Ings

Danny Ings only had two shots and was hidden against West Brom, but we all know the 28-year-old is a diamond when it comes to the Fantasy Premier League. His constant return has been a boon to the managers who trusted him last season and he has already scored three goals in four games in 2020/21.

Southampton could cause an inconsistent Chelsea problem, especially as the unpredictable Kepa Arrizabalaga is likely to replace the injured Édouard Mendy. Ings could very well score a goal or two if the blues don’t get tighter at the back.
