The real reason Kyle Flanagan may be forced off the taps before his contract is finalized has been revealed … but Mitchell Pearce won’t be returning to Bondi.
This is after The Australians Brent Read who gave an updateTriple M. in relation to the contractual situations of both players.
Flanagan has been told that he will no longer be needed at the Roosters after 2021 if his current deal ends.

MJ: Dogs are a good match for Flanagan

Although much has been done of Flanagan’s form, Read revealed that pressure on the salary cap was behind the decision to part ways early.
“Your problem is, I don’t think you budgeted the Morris brothers and Jake Friend running around next year,” he said.
“For that reason, when you take into account what these three guys are getting paid and that they have to re-sign James Tedesco beyond next year.
“I’ve been told that his camp is asking for enormous money. He is looking for a three-year extension worth $ 3.3 million. He still has a year.
“Because of those two things, something has to come up and Kyle Flanagan has become an expendable player with Sam Walker waiting in the reserves.
“I don’t think Kyle Flanagan will be there next year.”

Laurie Daley suggested earlier this week that Pearce could head for a shock roosters meetup instead of Flanagan.
That was quickly shot down by Read, however, along with suggestions that he could be part of a player swap with Mitchell Moses.
Read said he spoke to Adam O’Brien and the Newcastle manager assured him that Pearce has a long-term future at the club.
“I spoke to Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien today and he said he spoke to Mitchell several times this week and assured him that he had a future at Newcastle,” he added.

“He is as committed to Mitchell as Mitchell is to him.
“Pearce is getting ready to get married now, and once he’s done that stuff and got it out of the way, he’ll sit down with the club. Adam O’Brien believes they will close a deal with Mitchell Pearce.
“He still has a year, they’ll extend it beyond that. He was stunned by Pearce’s proposals to be part of an exchange with Mitchell Moses that he could return to the roosters.
“Pearce doesn’t want to go and Adam doesn’t want him to go.”
