Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris announced his desire to buy the Al-Ahly Football Club company, indicating that he hoped to issue a law to acquire private companies for clubs that are considered government, as happened with English clubs.
The Sawiris family, well-known in Egypt, has two clubs, El Gouna, competing in the Egyptian League, and Aston Villa, competitor in the English Premier League, which includes among its ranks the Egyptian duo Ahmed El Mohamady and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet.
Sawiris said in statements to “On Time Sports”: “The process in Egypt must be regular and a clear law should be passed allowing private companies to own clubs, as what happened to Manchester United and Liverpool.”
He added: “Al-Ahly club must have a strong management. The issue is not only in football. You must have a marketing department in order to manage the club and maximize its resources.”
He concluded: “I welcome the support of the Al-Ahly club. I only have a dispute over management, so there must be an administrative, technical and marketing part.”
The Al-Ahly administration, headed by Mahmoud Al-Khatib, issued an official letter in mid-September announcing the establishment of three companies, including a football company, within the 2050 vision.
