The Italian tennis federation confirmed on Wednesday that the world number 16 was isolated while anyone in contact with him must be tested.

“All people with whom Fognini was in direct contact were preventively isolated and exposed to new swabs,” the statement said.

Fognini, who played doubles with fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti on Tuesday, also announced it on social media.

“Folks, I have to tell you that I tested positive for Covid-19 this morning,” said the 33-year-old in his Instagram story. “The symptoms are very mild, a little cough and fever, headache… but unfortunately this bad news has arrived.

“I am already isolated and I believe that I will recover very soon. Hugs to you all. ”

Meanwhile, tennis journalist Craig Shapiro announced on Twitter that Fognini was one of “over 20 players” who tested positive for Covid 19 at the ATP 250 event.
