The former All Blacks duo will sign again with Western Force...

The Western Force has recruited former All Blacks duo Richard Kahui and Jeremy Thrush for the 2021 Super Rugby AU season. Kahui won the 2011 World Cup with New Zealand, scoring ten tries in his 17 appearances for the All Blacks, while Lock Thrush, 35, won a dozen internationals and scored twice in his international career.

Kahui, the 35-year-old center, said he was excited to be spending another year in Western Australia. The Force was without a win in this year’s Super Rugby AU, but Kahui is confident that fortunes will improve in the future.

“Some of the signatures we made were massive,” he said. “There are some big names in international rugby and it’s great for Western Force supporters. All the cattle are here now and we have the ingredients for a big campaign. ”

In July, before the start of Super Rugby AU, Kahui said RugbyPass: “There are quite a few young people on this team who have played rapid rugby and age group rugby here in Australia but haven’t played a super yet. So it’s a pretty cool group because everyone is very eager to learn and everyone is very excited.

“When I got into the group, I noticed that everyone was hissing to be back in Super Rugby and have the opportunity.

“I remember when I was a young man when I was asked to play super rugby and how inspiring it is and how it feels to be out there when you compete in a competition that is one of the best in the world. It’s really nice to be around that energy again and it kind of rubs off on me and I feel a little bit younger than me. ”

Former Irish international Rob Kearney is one of the newly signed “cattle” that Kahui is referring to. The full-back joined Western Force last month, just five days after announcing that his long stay at Leinster was finally over.

“I am very excited to be part of the Western Force for the coming season and I look forward to playing with such an ambitious club looking to improve this year’s campaign,” said the 34-year-old Kearney on the Force website at the time.

“I hope that I can create added value both on and off the field, which complements the high ambitions of the club. I am particularly looking forward to immersing myself in a new competitive environment and playing with and against some of the best players and teams in the southern hemisphere.
