NRL 2020: Emergency Room, Injuries, Return Flight Data, James Tedesco State...

New South Wales coach Brad Fittler had to come up with a contingency plan after star full-back James Tedesco sustained a knee injury in the Roosters’ loss to the Raiders last week.

Tedesco attended the Roosters annual awards ceremony on Wednesday in a knee brace and said he hoped to be out of the bracket “in a few weeks”.

With game 1 in three weeks, any setback could rule him out from the series opening game.

Preliminary final

Fittler has reportedly earmarked Melbourne’s Ryan Papenhuyzen and possibly Parramatta’s Clint Gutherson, who is already set to play at the centers, as replacements.

“At this point, you will likely find he will be fine, but Freddy Fittler and Greg Alexander are sure to review contingency plans.” The daily telegraph Dean Ritchie told Big sports breakfast On Wednesday.

“Ryan Papenhuyzen is, I understand, the guy who should come in should Tedesco step down and that would give Clint Gutherson a real focus as Tom Trbojevic is not available.

“However, if they choose Zac Lomax in the right center, Gutherson can potentially start with the full-back.

“There are certainly a couple of options for Freddy … Teddy should be fine at this point, but Papenhuyzen and Gutherson should be ready because a seat at the full-back and center right might be available.”

In the meantime, the Sharks will start their 2021 campaign without Shaun Johnson and promising striker Royce Hunt.

Johnson had surgery on a broken Achilles and the club has confirmed that they are considering a nine month recovery in order to win him over for a possible return to Rounds 8-10.

Hunt also watches the same recovery time after breaking his patella.

Fellow striker Siosifa Talakai will have shoulder surgery in the off-season and could miss the 2021 opening rounds after a breakout season this year.

In some positive news for the club, hooker Blayke Brailey will be ready to go after surgery on an ankle injury.
