Vasyl Lomachenko had four opponents surrender in a row during their...

In just over a year, Vasyl Lomachenko either dropped four top fighters or forced their corners to throw in the towel.

Between November 2016 and December 2017, Nicholas Walters, Jason Sosa, Miguel Marriaga and Guillermo Rigondeaux stopped fighting in the middle of their fights when they discovered there was no way to beat the dominant Ukrainian.

Lomachenko puts his belt on the line against Teofimo Lopez

By the end of that time, Lomachenko had been nicknamed “No-Mas-Chenko” – based on the most famous demolition in boxing history when Roberto Duran allegedly said “No Mas” (no longer) during the fight against Sugar Ray Leonard.

It is an incredibly rare phenomenon in boxing for a boxer to give up on himself, though not so much that the boxer’s corner throws in the towel.

However, there is something really remarkable about putting four of these RTD (retirement / corner stop) victories together in a row.

TalkSPORT.com looks back on this time ahead of Lomachenko’s next fight against Teofimo Lopez on Saturday evening.

1. Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs)

The first fight took place on November 26, 2016 against the undefeated former WBA featherweight champion Walters.

Walters, now challenging Lomachenko’s WBO super featherweight belt, was to be one of the toughest challenges in Loma’s career.

This shouldn’t be the case as the Ukrainian overtook him for every minute in the first six laps and left him injured on the seventh.

The Jamaican survived the round but decided he didn’t want anymore and cited inactivity as the reason for the decision that he couldn’t win.

It’s been over four years and Walters hasn’t fought since.

2. Jason Sosa (20-1-4, 15 KOs)

The second fight took place on April 8, 2017 against former WBA super featherweight champion, Sosa.

Lomachenko had hoped to make a bigger name for himself than the American, but ultimately struggled to get other champions into the ring with him.

Sosa tried valiantly but was ultimately massively outperformed in combat when Lomachenko demonstrated ethereal boxing skills to tie him in knots.

After Sosa took a blow in the eighth and ninth rounds, Sosa’s corner pulled him out to save him from unnecessary punishment.

3. Miguel Marriaga (25-2, 21 KOs)

The third fight took place on August 5, 2017 against former two-time featherweight title challenger, Miguel Marriaga.

Again Lomachenko’s team fought for a dream opponent, this time falling back on Marriaga, who had previously been defeated by Nicholas Walters and Oscar Valdez.

As expected, the Colombian failed to reach Lomachenko and was knocked down in the third and seventh rounds.

Marriaga’s corner stopped that fight at the end of the seventh despite the fact that the challenger insisted he wanted to continue.

4. Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs)

The fourth fight took place on December 9, 2018 against former WBA and WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Rigo met Loma on paper as both were double Olympic gold medalists as amateurs and pound for pound stars as pros.

The weight differences, however, proved to be crucial when the Cuban jumped up two divisions to challenge the Ukrainian and failed to gain a foothold in battle.

After six furious rounds, he lost his unbeaten record, claiming he sustained a hand injury that later turned out to be a bruise.
