Former Villa man Cascarino was full of praise for Grealish and believes he is now taking his game to another level.
“It’s a little unfair because people say Jack is not anywhere near Gazza,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “Well it isn’t, but you can’t help but think about how it has turned out over the last year.
“I thought sometimes that Jack was a little light and that they had to be more of him. If he went to a club [playing in Europe], look villa are a big club. I played for them and I know how big the football club is and I’m glad he stayed at Villa. It’s a direction for the football club to be exciting.
“He has the incredible talent that he feels really comfortable when he goes to another level. He’s coming on stage now, where he’s achieving big momentary goals. Like West Ham at the end of the season. Jack starts doing that.
“He’s one of them who you know you need in every moment of a game to have someone who’s going to blow something with their vision. He has a wonderful pass weight that Gazza had. ”
England take on the world’s number 1 in Belgium on Sunday afternoon in what will be a crucial encounter in the UEFA Nations League.
It will be interesting to see if Gareth Southgate chooses to start Grealish for the second game in a row because the childhood Villa fan is at his peak and in shape.
Given that Southgate prefers Mason Mount over him, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him take off from the bench.
