Egyptian tennis player, Mayar Sherif, narrowly lost 2-1 to world no.4 Karolina Pliskova in the first round of Roland Garros.
Sherif burst into the Egyptian sporting scene thanks to her heroic in the tennis Grand Slam tournament, Roland Garros.
The 24-year-old became the first Egyptian female tennis player to reach the main draw of a major tennis tournament after winning her three opening qualifying matches.

Sherif was handed a tough draw in the first round of the French open against world no.4 Karolina Pliskova.
The first set was a hard fought back and fourth battle between the Egyptian and the Czech. Both players won their five opening games, before Sherif broke her opponent’s game to take the lead however she failed to make the most out of the situation and lost the following game.
The first set was eventually decided by a tiebreaker. Pliskova had a three-point advantage over her opponent forcing Sherif to produce an inspiring comeback to win the first set 7-6.
However, the second set didn’t go according to plan for the Egyptian as she lost 6-2 to send the game to a third and final set.
The final set was quite balanced as both players as both players were very precautios in each of their games but the Czech managed to come out in front and win 6-4.
Pliskova will now face current world no.43 and 2017 Roland Garros champion, Jelena Ostapenko, from Latvia in the second round.
