Thank you for reading the news about Former Wadi Degla manager discusses Zamalek job and now with the details
Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Former Wadi Degla manager, Takis Gonias, discussed the possibility of taking on the vacant managerial role in Zamalek.
French manager Patrice Carteron unexpectedly resigned from his role as Zamalek manager on Tuesday night, three months after having renewed his contract.
Zamalek performed brilliantly under his guidance, winning the CAF Super Cup and the Egyptian Super while sitting second on the Egyptian Premier League table. He also led them to the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
As a result of his departure the Whites are currently on on the lookout for a new person to fill the role with several names being linked.
Greek manager, Takes Gonias, confirmed that he has been on contact with Zamalek officials but no official negotiations have started.
“I’ve been in contact with some Zamalek representatives but nothing official yet. For me official negotiations mean being in direct contact with the chairman and not agents,” he told Al-Nahar TV channel.
“I’m currently in Greece and not in Egypt but I hope to return as soon as possible as I want to coach there.
“Zamalek have many special players, its one of the biggest in Africa and their players can apply my style of play,” he concluded.
Egyptian football fans are quite familiar with Gonias’ possession based style as they witnessed it during his time in charge of Egyptian Premier League side Wadi Degla.
His first season with Degla was quite convincing, helping them sit tenth on the league table, 12 points away from the top four. However his second season saw a huge drop of form and spent the majority of the time hovering around the relegation zone.
He was then replaced by former Newcastle and Cypriot midfielder, Nikodimos Papavasiliou, who had an immediate impact on the team as he suffered just two defeats in his nine game in charge.
