Cairo giants Al Ahly have announced that they are open to postponing the CAF Champions League semi-finals if no games can be played in Morocco.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had already decided on dates and venues for the Confederation Cup and Champions League semi-finals.

Four of these encounters were set to take place in Morocco as they have four teams representing them including Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca, RS Berkane and HUSA.

However as coronavirus cases continue to increase in Morocco, CAF informed all participating teams that they are considering postponing the matches.

Both Zamalek and Pyramids had already expressed their disagreement but rivals, Al Ahly, seem to believe that this decision can only benefit the teams participating.

“We were always planning on playing the semis-finals as per CAF’s scheduled dates,” they announced on Al Ahly TV.

However, due to the current situation in Morocco and the difficulty for Raja and Wydad to play their matches because of the spread of the coronavirus, we don’t mind postponing the games.

“The human and health conditions are more important than a competition,” he concluded.

The matches are set to take place by the end of September but it is still unclear what CAF’s final decision will be.
