Thank you for reading the news about Algeria cancel league, CR Belouizdad crowned champions and now with the details
The Algerian FA (FAF) have decided to cancel the 2019-2020 season after a five-month suspension and as a result CR Belouizdad have been crowned champions.
Like most countries, Algeria was forced to suspend its football activities since mid-March due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As the situation continues to aggravate in the country, with the number of cases not showing any signs of slowing down and in parallel with the government’s decision to extend the quarantine period, the FAF have decided to cancel the season.
This decision meant that CR Belouizdad have been crowned champions for the seventh time since the club’s inception in 1962 and for the first time since the 2000-2001 season.
Belouizdad, who sat on top of the league table with 40 points, will therefore represent Algeria in the upcoming edition of the CAF Champions League alongside second-placed MC Alger. While ES Setif will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Additionally, Algeria’s football governing body decided to cancel relegation form the Algerian Ligue 1.
However, Ligue 2 champions Olympique Médéa will be promoted to the top flight accompanied by JSM Skikda, WA Tlemcen and RC Relizane.
Finally, teams will be allowed to register new players for the 2020-2021 season starting August 5th up until October 27th.
