Juan Carlos Garrido takes over as Wydad Casablanca’s head coach as Sebastien Desabre is rumored to become Cote d’Ivoire’s next boss.

According to reports, Desabre was close to leaving the club after a run of bad performances last week.

It came after the club released a statement saying that the board will meet with the Frenchman. However, after assuming responsibility for the poor form, he ended up staying.

Just over a week now, Garrido is succeeding him. Both managers are former Egyptian Premier League managers.

On one hand, Desabre had two spells, firstly, with Ismaily in 2017 before leaving to take a job at Uganda’s national team.

A few days after he was sacked by Uganda’s football association in 2019, Pyramids signed him, a position that would last less for three months.

On the other hand, Garrido spent the 2014/15 season with Al Ahly winning the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup, however losing the title for the first time in over 10 years was under his name as well.

Since his time in Cairo, the Spaniard managed Al Ettifaq, Raja Casablanca, Al Ain, and Etoile Du Sahel.

His most fruitful time was with Wydad’s archrivals Raja Casablanca where he won the Morrocan Throne Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
