Ismaily have put one foot in Arab Club Championship final after defeating Raja Casablanca 1-0 in the first leg of the semi-final on Sunday.

The Yellows had a slow start to the game as Raja Casablanca almost opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Soufiane Rahimi went through on goal but blasted the ball off target.

Raja continued to pile more pressure on Ismaily with a few half chances as Ismaily struggled in the opening minutes of the game.

In the 40th minute, Raja had another opportunity to score after a defensive error by Ismaily but goalkeeper Mohamed Magdy quickly came out of his goal to clear the ball.

Ismaily’s first real chance of the game came in the 49th minute when Mohamed El-Shami got a shooting chance at goal but his effort forced a save

As Raja Casablanca tried to clear the ball, Hamid Ahadad attempted to control it with his hand which forced the referee to award Ismaily a penalty.

Tunisia international Fakhereddine Ben Youssef converted successfully from the spot to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute.

Raja almost equalized nine minutes later but Ismaily’s Mohamed Magdy made a good save to keep his side ahead.

Magdy was on the scene again as he made another sublime stop to deny Fabrice Ngah’s bullet header in the 64th minute.

Following their victory, Ismaily are set to play Raja Casablanca in the second leg of the Arab Club Championship semi-final on 15 March.
