Thank you for reading the news about Sundowns right back Morena out for Al Ahly games with ankle injury and now with the details
Mamelodi Sundowns right back Thapelo Morena has been ruled out of both games against Al Ahly after suffering a fracture and ligament damage to his ankle.
The 26 year old has been one of the stars of Sundowns’ season, scoring four goals and assisting eight in all competitions including two goals in the CAF Champions League.
The injury occured during a NedBank Cup tie with Supersport United which Sundowns won 1-0, as Morena was caught by a bad tackle from Onismor Bhasera which led him to being stretchered off.
Since the game it has been confirmed that he suffered a fracture to his right ankle which has also caused some ligament damage, which will prove to be a major hurdle for the rest of his career.
With the big CAF Champions League quarter final against Al Ahly approaching, Morena will be unavailable to play for his side and it is possible that he may even miss the remainder of the season.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane immediately has some regrets about playing such an important player in a game like this, saying “This is what I was saying that maybe we should do a Jurgen [Klopp] and focus on the league and the Champions League but we don’t have that culture here and this is what happens.”
In the absence of Morena, the first leg between Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns takes place on Friday 28th of February in Cairo.
