Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’ featured as Aston Villa kicked off 2020 in style with a 2-1 away victory at Turf Moor against Burnley in the 21st gameweek.

Following their heavy 3-0 defeat against relegation rivals Watford, the Villans returned back to winning ways as they recorded their first away league victory since October to jump out of relegation places.

Egyptian winger Trezeguet started the game on the right-hand side, while Ahmed Elmohamady was among the subs.

The visitors thought they took the lead after 11 minutes through Jack Grealish after heading Douglas Luiz’ cross into the net; however, the goal was ruled out following a lengthy consultation from VAR due to marginal offside.

Nevertheless, Brazilian forward Wesley managed to put The Villans in front ten minutes later after collecting Grealish’s cross and sending a low strike into the net.

In the 40th minute, Jack Grealish doubled his side’s lead with a fantastic strike into the top corner, ending the first half with a two-goal lead for the visitors.

Three minutes into the first half, Douglas Luiz was on the verge of adding a third for Aston Villa; yet, his long-range effort was saved by Burnley’s goalkeeper Pope.

In the 77th minute, Trezeguet’s contribution came to an end as he was replaced by Conor Hourihane.

An improvement in Burnley’s display in the second half was paid off in the 80th minute when Chris Wood managed to pull one back for his side after heading Westwood’s cross into Tom Heaton’s net; however, it wasn’t enough as Villa collected the three points at the end.

The victory has pulled Aston Villa out of the relegation zone temporarily as they are now on 21 points, two away from West Ham in the 18th place.
