Al Ahly manager Rene Weiler has put the recent injuries down to nothing more than bad luck while praising his side for their win over Platinum.

Despite the 2-0 win for Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage, it was far from a vintage performance.

In response, Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler has attributed some of the difficulties they faced to the injuries to key players in the squad.

Weiler said “The match was difficult for us after 15 minutes due to various injuries, but we achieved the main goal of the match by achieving the victory we had targeted and gained three points. Saad’s injury is more difficult than Ajayi, especially because his recovery was not complete, and we feared for Ajayi after he felt knee pain.”

“I do not see a lot of injuries in the team, but it is the result of misfortune, it is very natural and I see it as well, and I did not get the opportunity to go through the preparation period with the team at the beginning of the season where I came late.”

Speaking on the match itself, Weiler said “I don’t care who scores goals, the most important thing for me is to work collectively and I don’t care about the name of the goal scorer. Penalties are done through the three players who have been agreed upon, and this is done through their readiness in the stadium.”

“I have good players and am able to make up for any loss and I am not worried in the upcoming games of the many injuries. There is no problem with the Zimbabwean weather and the temperature will help us make a good match there.”

Al Ahly will now turn their attention to the Egyptian Premier League game against Misr El Makassa on Wednesday 1st of January at 7:30PM local time.

The return leg against Platinum takes place on Saturday 11th of January at 3PM Egyptian time.
