Actor and theater director, Robert Aussen, who was one of the pillars of French theater in recent decades, died Thursday at the age of 93, his wife told AFP.

Actress Candice Pato said that Osen died “this morning (Thursday) in hospital” after suffering “a respiratory problem”, confirming a piece of information published by “Le Point” magazine.

Osen celebrated his 93rd year on Wednesday. Aussen signed huge theatrical productions including “Les Miserables” and “Notre-Dame de Barre” (The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

But his fame mainly took off in acting in the 1960s with the series “Angelique, Marquis Desang”.

Robert Osin, whose original name is Abraham Huseynov, was born on December 30, 1927 to an Iranian father who was a musician and an Orthodox Russian mother. He grew up in a poor family, and decided after World War II at the age of fifteen to major in dramatic art.

And in the city of Reims, he founded the “Popular Theater” and a college where the famous actresses Anemon and Isabelle Adjani studied.

In cinema, the actor’s career spanned more than seven decades between 1948 and 2019, and he participated in the film “Le Robo de Gereer” (1962) with Brigitte Bardot and became one of the favorite actors in the work of director Roger Vadim.

French actress Brigitte Bardot called him on her Twitter account and tweeted, “My wonderful warriors rest in peace.”
