Saudi authorities arrest a lieutenant colonel after receiving a huge bribe

The Saudi authorities announced the arrest of a lieutenant colonel in government agencies after he received a bribe of 400 million riyals (about 106 million dollars) in one of the largest corruption cases that the country has witnessed recently.

An official source in the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority in Saudi Arabia stated, “Nazaha”, on Saturday, that an officer with the rank of a team in a ministry and the director of a foreign company contracting with the ministry was arrested, because the former was involved during his work with obtaining sums of money, amounting to approximately 400 million riyals. In exchange for awarding projects for the company and other companies.

The commission clarified that the officer is accused of using his bank accounts outside Saudi Arabia to receive money and “transfer it to Saudi Arabia,” as well as conducting sales of real estate inside Saudi Arabia in large amounts that do not represent their purchasing power.

Meanwhile, integrity spokesman Ahmed Al-Hassan said that the Saudi officer took advantage of his rank, position and powers granted to him in the procedures for launching projects in the ministry in which he works, and then awarding those projects.

Al-Hassan added in televised statements broadcast by “Khaleejia” channel, that the officer also took advantage of the absence of supervision of the authority to which the projects are affiliated to implement their projects, which enabled him to attack public funds and undermine the state’s efforts in development.
