His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, met today, His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Republic of Yemen, Othman Majali, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh, in the presence of the General Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Ambassador Muhammad bin Saeed Al Jaber, and the Ambassador of the Republic The Yemeni woman in the Kingdom, Dr. Shaee` Mohsen Al-Zindani, to discuss aspects of partnership and means of cooperation between the two ministries through the program to follow up the outcomes of the meeting in terms of development initiatives and programs and to govern them in accordance with international best practices, with the aim of supporting the productive and vital sectors in Yemen.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint memorandum of cooperation between the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, which will contribute to achieving environmental, living and economic balance in the Republic of Yemen, and building specialized capacities in the environmental, agricultural and vital fields, in a way that improves the lives of the people of the various Yemeni governorates.
During the meeting, ways of cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, water, fisheries and the environmental field were discussed, which includes cooperation in combating desert locusts in Yemen, and how to develop solutions to the crises facing the productive and vital sectors. Work was also discussed to enhance Yemeni agricultural exports, and plans to support the Yemeni agricultural sector with seeds were reviewed. And agricultural inputs that contribute to raising the efficiency and quality of local production.
The joint cooperation memorandum will contribute to implementing development strategies that promote optimal investment of water and food resources, building the capacities of environment, water, agriculture, fisheries and environmental cadres. It will also improve the efficiency and quality of ecosystems in Yemen, and contribute to developing food production, ensuring water availability, and managing it in a sustainable manner. And contribute to the development of natural resources in Yemen.
The General Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen Ambassador Muhammad Al Jaber stated that the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen is working with the Yemeni Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Yemen to transfer knowledge, build capacity, and support agriculture in Yemen.
He said: The brotherly Yemeni people depend heavily on agriculture, and we believe that subsidizing agriculture will pave the way for many job opportunities, and there are many aspects of cooperation that have been discussed in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, and the work will be effective and fruitful, God willing.
This partnership is an extension of the development efforts made by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen to improve the infrastructure of more than 7 vital sectors in Yemen in cooperation with the Yemeni government and local authorities in the Yemeni governorates, including: Work to support the agricultural sector by supplying equipment, plows and greenhouses, and cultivating agricultural lands, And support for water resources management through several projects that include drilling wells and providing them with solar powered pumps, distributing water tanks, and supporting fishermen with fishing boats that are powered by modern engines.
