RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday registered 501 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, marking a slight increase in the number of single-day infections.

The last time one-day infections surpassed 500-mark was on Sept. 29 when 539 infections were recorded.

The latest cases bring the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 340,590, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry, 21 more died over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 5,108.

The ministry also reported 481 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 326,820 with the recovery rate rising to 95.95 percent.

Of the new cases, Madinah recorded the highest number of cases with 57 infections followed by Makkah with 47, Riyadh with 42, Yanbu with 33 and Hafouf with 25 cases.

The remaining cases were detected in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom.

There are currently 8,662 active cases, out of which 830 are critical.
