“Abu Ramah” … a fatal disease that raids livestock in Jizan,...

The “Agriculture” branch in the region started the cases and took samples from the infected goats

Residents of a village in Abu Arish governorate, east of the Jizan region, complained about the incursion of a strange disease, which transforms the bodies of livestock from “goats” into skeletons before killing them, amid fears of transmission and expansion of the disease, and they demanded the necessity of vaccination.

In the details, sources indicated that the agriculture branch in the governorate started the cases, and samples were taken from sick goats about a week ago, and the results were – according to what a livestock keeper received – that she was infected with the highly contagious pleuritis, or what is known among the public as “Abu Ramah” .

And “Abu Ramah” is a fatal lung disease that affects goat herds in several countries, especially in the Middle East. The main cause of the disease is bacteria, called mycelium, that are transmitted through the air and cough droplets from infected animals to healthy animals, directly or indirectly, such as the use of tools and feeds contaminated with the microbe. The infection rate reaches 100%, while the mortality rate of sick animals ranges between 60 and 100%.

In this regard, one of the residents in the village said that the disease is common in newborn sheep, “goats”, and its symptoms begin with loss of appetite, and within three days it appears severe emaciation and diarrhea, after which it turns into a skeleton, then the head swells, and foam comes out from the mouth, then Spend it on the spot. Indicating that most cases spend between 5 and 15 days.

The citizen pointed out that the disease caused heavy losses to him within two years, pointing out that the number of deaths due to the same symptoms was approximately 80 heads. He explained that he did not leave a treatment except and brought it from private pharmacies, and that the diagnoses differ. Some say pseudotuberculosis, and some say parasitic worms.

And he said: Now that a division of agriculture was diagnosed in the Abu Arish branch, it became clear to them that it was the disease of crystalline pneumonia known as (Abu Ramah). He called on the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to create seasonal vaccinations for livestock keepers in the region, and to educate them about the seriousness of this disease, noting that his neighbor’s livestock also suffers from the same problem.

A source from the Ministry of Agriculture branch in Jazan urged livestock keepers to report any illnesses among livestock, indicating to “previously” that vaccinations will be requested from the ministry as the disease is not listed among the common diseases in the region for which treatments must be available continuously.
